It is a privilege and sacred task to become an Extraordinary minister of the Holy Eucharist and a blessing to those who are chosen. The ordinary ministers of Holy Communion are the priest and deacon.  Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion may be appointed to facilitate the distribution of Holy Communion within Mass when there is a large number of communicants. The majority of these ministers serve at Mass, but many also choose to participate in this ministry at the hospitals, nursing homes or by taking communion to the homebound of our parish. There are also opportunities for experienced Eucharistic Ministers to assist with Weddings, Funerals, and Holy Day liturgies.

If you would like to serve as Eucharistic Minister you need to contact the Pastor first to express your interest. He will offer you guidance and approve your training. Training is offered by the Office of Worship of the Archdiocese of Galveston - Houston.

Before you minister:

Please understand that an E.M. should be in a state of grace (not conscious of an unconfessed mortal sin) and fully initiated into the sacramental life of the Church. (i.e. having received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist) and not prevented by law (in a marriage not recognized by the Church, for example.

Dress in a manner conducive to the ministry you are undertaking.  You will be in contact with The Body and Blood of Jesus – His True Presence.  Appropriate attire should be modest and should not include jeans or clothing with any logos or writing on it.

Know your schedule in advance and find a replacement if necessary.

Please sit near the front of the church.

Prayer for Eucharistic Ministers

May my behavior and the attitude of my heart reflect that holy honor as I strive to serve in a sacred way.

With awe and wonder, I will hold in my hands the Body of Christ and His Sacred Blood, so that my sisters and brothers may be fed with the Food of Life.

Make my heart and hands clean. Free me from anything of vanity and pride that might divorce me and the service that is mine from the heart of the Divine Mystery residing in this Holy Meal.

May I, with your constant assistance, truly wait upon You and Your people in this Holy Liturgy of Praise and Adoration.

AMEN.
