The lector is instituted to proclaim the readings from Sacred Scripture, with the exception of the Gospel. He may also announce the intentions for the Universal Prayer and, in the absence of a psalmist, recite the Psalm between the readings. Having the opportunity to study and then proclaim the word of God is such a gift.  This commitment allows the parishioner to be the “voice” for God’s Word and share this with the community.

Requirements:

  • 17 years or older and have received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
  • Clear, steady voice and be comfortable reading in public.
  • Attend Mass regularly.
  • Willing to study the Scripture passage and take time to practice.
  • Dress in a modest and respectful manner.
